Overview

Tigithi Primary School is situated in a small market town in central Kenya. It currently educates 240 children from the area and since we have started working with the school in 2008, attendance and grades have greatly improved. Our priority in Tigithi has been to tackle the issues of literacy, education and poor school attendance with a dynamic approach to facilities, social welfare and child support within the framework provided by the Ministry of Education. Since 2008 we have built and renovated the classrooms, provided new desks, chairs, school uniforms and textbooks so the children can now study in a positive environment.

In Tigithi we are helping to produce children who can have in confidence going into their future with a real possibility of attending secondary school and college. Part of this confidence also comes from tackling the deeper social issues faced by families and the communities in the area. Consequently, we have also helped to set up a social welfare program which supports needy families; supporting children in school is only part of the equation.

Get Involved

Volunteering - teaching non-examinable subjects such as music, sport, arts, ethics, plus running extra-curricular clubs and providing small group reading lessons, mentoring and group therapy work.

Future Aims

The aim is for the school to become self-sufficient. Moving Mountains will work with the school providing advice on how to run a development fund and income generating projects.

We aim to continue placing Gap students in the school. Each visitor represents a donation to the school and this enables the school committee to tackle extensions, renovations, and developments without money from Moving Mountains. Moving Mountains will continue to provide individual support for some students.

Empower the students of Tigithi Primary School to grow and flourish by making a donation to our educational programmes in Kenya today.
