Gatuanyaga Primary School
In 2026 Moving Mountains once again teamed up with our good friends from the Irish charity, Granaghan Outreach, and started working at Gatuanyaga Primary School on the western side of Mount Kenya in Nyeri County, roughly 10km from Naro Moru town. The start of this project marked two decades of Granaghan Outreach and Moving Mountains working together.
Gatuanyaga Primary was in much the same condition as nearby Tigithi Primary before its redevelopment. Most classrooms lacked proper flooring, and many structures were built from wooden off-cuts. While this gave the school a somewhat picturesque appearance, the learning environment was far from suitable.

These wooden buildings are not permanent structures and contain large gaps between the off-cuts used for the walls, offering little protection from the wind, rain, and cold conditions typical of the Mount Kenya region. As a result, students often struggled to concentrate during lessons, particularly in the colder months.

Moving Mountains hope to replace all the temporary classrooms in the upcoming years, with the aim of leaving Gatuanyaga Primary with a school that provides a safe and comfortable environment for the children to learn.
